**Prime Minister Trudeau Mourns Passing of Former BC Minister Iona Campagnolo** Ottawa, April 5, 2024 - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today issued a statement on the passing of former British Columbia Minister Iona Campagnolo at the age of 91. In a news release announcing Campagnolo's death, Prime Minister Trudeau said, "Iona Campagnolo was a tireless advocate for the people of British Columbia. She served her province with distinction as Minister of Finance and dedicated her life to making a positive impact on her community." "Her contributions to our country were significant, and she will be deeply missed," Trudeau added. Iona Campagnolo was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1933. She worked as a teacher and community activist before entering politics. She was elected to the provincial legislature in 1972 and served as Minister of Finance from 1975 to 1986. After leaving politics, Campagnolo continued to work in public service. She served on the boards of several non-profit organizations and was a host of the popular BC Legends with Carole Taylor television show. In his statement, Prime Minister Trudeau called on Canadians to remember Campagnolo's legacy. "Let us remember Iona Campagnolo's great contributions to British Columbia, to Canada, and may we continue to build on her tireless work."
