Inter Milan snatch dramatic victory over Udinese
Davide Frattesi scores late winner to secure three points
Inter maintain title challenge with hard-fought win
Inter Milan left it late to claim a dramatic 1-0 victory over Udinese at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Monday evening. The Nerazzurri were made to work hard by a resolute Udinese side, but Davide Frattesi's stoppage-time goal secured all three points for the home side.
Inter entered the game knowing that victory was essential to keep pace with league leaders Napoli. The visitors, meanwhile, were looking to build on their impressive recent form, which had seen them climb to the top half of the Serie A table.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Inter had the better of the possession, but Udinese's well-organized defense kept them at bay. The visitors, meanwhile, looked dangerous on the break and had a couple of half-chances themselves.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Inter dominating possession but struggling to find a way through Udinese's defense. The visitors continued to threaten on the break, and they had a great chance to take the lead when Gerard Deulofeu broke clear of the Inter defense. However, the Spaniard's shot was well saved by Samir Handanovic.
As the game entered the final stages, it looked like Inter would be frustrated once again. However, they were handed a lifeline when Frattesi was fouled in the penalty area in the second minute of stoppage time. The midfielder stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and made no mistake, sending the home crowd into raptures.
