Celtics Rout Mavericks in Game 1 of NBA Finals
Boston Takes 1-0 Series Lead
Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown Lead Offensive Charge in 107-89 Victory
The Boston Celtics controlled Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89. Boston jumped out to a 21-point lead at halftime and never looked back, limiting the Mavericks to just 38.1% shooting from the field. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 39 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Jaylen Brown added 20 points.
Kristaps Porzingis returned from a calf injury to score 20 points for the Mavericks, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Celtics' offense. Boston hit 16 three-pointers in the game, compared to just seven for Dallas. The Celtics also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding the Mavericks 51-36.
The Mavericks will need to find a way to improve their shooting in Game 2 if they want to even the series. They will also need to find a way to slow down Tatum and Brown, who combined for 59 points in Game 1.
