After the Windows update in October 2017, some PCs may encounter issues with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) when attempting to recover the operating system from Windows 8 or 10 to Windows 7, or vice versa.
Specifically, when enabling the Intel Platform Trust Technology option in the BIOS, the following error message may appear in the Windows Device Manager under Security Devices:
Error Message:
The ACPIMSFT0101 device - Intel Platform Trust Technology - is not supported under Windows 7 x86.
This error occurs because the ACPIMSFT0101 device driver is not compatible with Windows 7. To resolve the issue, it is recommended to disable the Intel Platform Trust Technology option in the BIOS before attempting to recover the operating system.
